More about this Trip

Coimbra was founded by the Romans, near one of their most important towns, Conímbriga, occupied by the Visigoths and by the muslims, before being taken back during the Reconquista. Some centuries later, it was even held temporarily by Napoleonic troops!

All of these cultures left behind traces of their previous occupants, which can be seen in the narrow streets and the city’s many remnants of medieval architecture. However, it is also a city full of new life and movement, being home to one of the oldest universities in Europe, with origins traced back to the 13th century, and is today Portugal’s most international university, with almost 10% of its students being foreigners.

Come visit this city where the past and present come together, and students, the Fado and “Saudade” go hand in hand to build a brighter future!
